  • Tortuga's Throwback Thursday

Throwing it back to 34 years ago, when Captain Robert Hamaty and his wife Carlene noticed that tourists exploring the Cayman Islands would often leave with memorabilia and products, none of which were authentically Caribbean. That one observation is what started what we know and love as Tortuga Rum Cakes.

They introduced the first rums of the Cayman Islands, primarily to appeal as a souvenir to the growing tourist and cruise passenger business. In 1987, they opened the first Tortuga duty free liquor store and later that year, introduced the now world-famous Tortuga Caribbean Rum Cake. This four-generation-old family recipe has won Tortuga Rum Cakes the "Best Cruise Souvenir" award by Porthole Cruise Magazine for 13 consecutive years.

Now we offer rum cakes in a variety of flavors, coffee, sauces, and high-quality chocolate treats. You can find our products in duty-free shops across all major North American and Caribbean airports, in onboard gift shops of more than 100 cruise ships, and shipped around the world directly from our website.

Tortuga Rum Cakes & Whipped Cream

When summer berries hit their seasonal best, we can't get enough. They're nature’s candy, that even the kids can't say no to. So naturally pairing it with our Tortuga Golden Original Rum Cake is a no brainier.

After dinner is cooked, leave the grill on and whip up an easy dessert (grill marks included). Enjoy a piece of our Tortuga Golden Original Rum Cake right off the grill, or add your favorite summer fruits like raspberries and blueberries. Don't forget the whipped cream, although not a fruit, it is always a good choice. Have you tried Alton Brown's 5 star whipped cream recipe?
